Local Media Continues to Suppress Local News in Lansing MI as 100s Join Protest & March at Michigan State Capital
No Local Media Journalists Appeared at National Day of Protest in Lansing, Mi
No Local Media Journalists Appeared at National Day of Protest in Lansing, Mi
March 04, 2024 - Local, grass roots journalist and Lansing Influencer, Jacki Krumnow, author of this article, attended the national day of protest to photograph and capture video content of the event happening at the Michigan State Capital, per her own, previous, responsibilities to cover and report local happenings in Lansing.
100s of individuals attended the National Day of Protest, originally promoted by the 50501 Movement to have concerned citizens come together, unify, and tell the nation’s reps, that the current state of the United States Government is headed in an irreparable direction that they do not approve of. The crowd heard multiple individuals speak on top of the Capital’s stairs, of all ages, genders, and races.
The crowd was a mid size turnout compared to Feb 5th event, the first of its kind in Lansing, MI during this administration, and had between 500-700 ish people there from the period of time, which Krumnow was there which was 12:15 arrival and departure around 1:30 pm as the crowd began to march around the capital with chants. This is the third national day of protest since Donald Trump has taken presidency, the second of which happened on President‘s Day, despite freezing temperatures, and rouge misinformation about the event originally getting canceled.
This was the first national day event in Lansing to include a march around the Capital Building.
Despite Krumnow’s best efforts to bully local media, like the Lansing State Journal, into covering the protests with correct details, journalistic integrity, and removing their false narrative with photos that make the attendees look like an angry mob (with tone deaf photojournalism, and the inability to attend the rally the entire time)…. No local media representation from Lansing attended the event for coverage based on the conversations Krumnow had. She attempted to speak to every “media” looking rep there to find out who they were with and where they came from.
Not. A. SINGLE ONE was from a large Lansing Media News outlet. Not Lansing State Journal, not Fox 47, not WILX, not WLNS, nor City Pulse. One rep, from CBS Chanel 19, was from multiple towns over and not local to Lansing. Another was an online Independent outlet, possibly Michigan Advance.
WLNS Channel 6 apparently showed up, but god knows at what time, as they sat their and stated there were only “DOZENS” of people there. Another false narrative, in which it seems as though the journalist, Taryn Simmons, was there before Krumnow was on the scene, while also spreading misinformation that the protest was only against DOGE. Although the article was published online at 1:30 PM, it aired live at 12:05 PM, quite literally at the beginning of the protest. As people were still streaming into the area. It’s as if they showed up, filmed quickly, packed up, and called it a day before Krumnow was even on the scene at 12:15 PM.
FOX 47 has yet to cover the story in full. It gets a small mention in their “HAPPENING TODAY” segment. Posted 5:30 AM, Mar 04, 2025 and last updated 5:30 AM, Mar 04, 2025.
Lansing State Journal, City Pulse, and WILX have published nothing as of the time of article be written and published on 03/04/2025 at 6 PM.
As local news outlets continue to refuse to publish with any real journalistic integrity, report false narratives, show up so early they don’t even get a proper crowd size, and not publish local news that is relevant to the Lansing residents OR American Citizens across the nation, Krumnow has taken up a the mantel of being a guerrilla journalist trying to keep people informed on her social channels, and now with written articles on her personal, professional website.
What is Guerrilla Journalism? “Citizens who engage in guerrilla journalism are non-professional journalists, indicating a divide between professional mainstream media and citizen journalists,” as stated in the link provided here, by roarnews.co.uk. “The nature of guerrilla journalism thus lies in its investigative norms. What we can learn from the American guerrilla journalist I.F. Stone and the British guerrilla journalist Claud Cockburn is that the truth shall be patiently pursued to uncover information that could spark alternative views to the consensus that mainstream media presents.”
The people need the government to do their job. But the Media needs to do theirs too. Lansing and all residents across the world deserve to know what is happening and how we are fighting back as the American People.
Until further notice, you can count on Krumnow to provide Now News on a timely basis as a guerrilla journalist on any of her social media platforms, and here on the NEWS section of this website. If the media refuses to report the news of the people for the people, a regular individual like myself will step up and do it for them.
Photos and Video Galleries from all three events will eventually be hosted on this website as well. For now, you can see photos on both Krumnow’s Instagram and Facbeook profile which are both PUBLIC pages.
