Michigan Congressman Tom Barrett Refused Town Hall Appearance on MSU Campus ~ Appeared at Breslin Center on MSU Campus at Same Time ~
March 22, 2025 (Updated 11:00 AM 3/23/35) - Local Guerilla Journalist, Jacki Krumnow, of Now News, attended the Empty Chair Town Hall for Tom Barrett, with 7th District Constituents put on at Wilson Hall Auditorium, MSU 219 Wilson Rd., E. Lansing, 48825 by the organization INDIVISIBLE from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Now known as the Tom Barrett-less Town Hall, where half-way through the event, the constitutes of the 7th district found out Barrett, their elected representative (whom won by only 3.7 percentage points) was a mere stone’s throw away, ON MSU CAMPUS as well, attending a basketball game with his daughters at the Breslin center. A mere half mile apart from each other. Of which it takes, a short ten minute walk to take. Essentially trolling the people who elected him into office, and gloating about it on Facebook at the exact same time.

Barrett ignored all requests to appear at the Town Hall while the government was on recess and was in town during the event. He could have even easily reached out, and asked: “Hey, I’d love to make it after the basketball game I promised to take my daughter to as a reward for her great season, is there any chance we could move the town hall back or forward so I could be there for my daughter and then also be there for the people who elected me, who I promised “I was ready to serve,” via a facebook ads while I was running for election?”
This make belief, possible scenario that Mr Barrett could had said to event organizers of the Town Hall, crafted by Krumnow, a previous politician’s daughter, Lowell Krumnow, from birth until the time of his passing, when she was 23. She’s well versed in being an athletic daughter who’s father missed out on a lot of sports related events while he was a public servant of their small town (making national headlines once or twice), Elmore, Ohio; as an elected official in 1992 until his untimely passing in 2013.
But Barrett did not. His constituents are not unreasonable people. The people of District 7 in Michigan, just want a representative who shows up for their people. Which was the sentiment throughout the room for the 20+ individuals who stood up to speak, throughout the 2 hour event, at the empty chair where Barrett was meant to sit. In addition to the other interviews Krumnow conducted herself outside of the Town Hall for video content.
*For the sake of quickness, Krumnow did not edit her photos from today’s events, and selected the best ones to post for a quick turn around and provide an honest viewpoint of the crowd and individuals who came out to speak to Tom Barrett.
Every person who spoke, wanted Barrett’s attention and to know when he would stand up for our rights, with varying concerns about fighting for a better future for America. Asking Tom Barrett’s empty chair in different ways, when he would stand up against Trump and his recent actions against:
the dismantling and defunding of department of education,
Medicaid removal,
social security cuts,
veteran cuts,
trans rights removal,
the rights of any and all vulnerable individuals being removed today;
And PICK his constituents over the dictatorship that is quickly forming across the nation.
One constituent, stated that they would actively work against Barrett’s re-election by campaigning for anybody else into his position when the time comes. The packed auditorium roared to life with green paper gleefully waving in the air in agreement. One thing was certain. The people of District 7, in the state of Michigan will do everything in their power to remove congressman Tom Barrett from his elected position in the future, as he refuses to address them or show up for them. They will do everything in their power to campaign against him, to make sure he does not get re-elected again in the future.
Other Reps at Tom Barrett Town Hall 03/22/25
While Barrett trolled his constituents, Michigan State Rep Julie Brixie, was able to show up for a short moment to address the crowd, when her handlers originally told her she wouldn’t be able to make it because of a scheduling conflict. She came and made an appearance for a brief moment to hear us and address the crowd. Basically telling her handlers, F-off, the people need me.
Another elected official stayed for the entire duration of the event. Mitchell Robinson an elected official on the Department of Education, from Okemos, Mi. Below is a short video of Julie addressing the crowd, while Mitchell also had an inspiring response to the crowd about how education should continue to be an important component of our working future. He was happy to stand in and hear the woes of District 7 while the cowardly Barratt choose a basketball game, neglect, and refusal to hold a town hall.
Crowd Size and Demographics at Tom Barrett Town Hall 03/22/25
As far as crowd size goes, which we all know, that’s what Krumnow is best at compiling for these articles, the auditorium room was reported to sit 400, and at the peak of the event, nearly every seat was filled, packed with heat of a pressure cooker, creating a sense of community of both fear and hope.
An estimated 350-375 individuals came to speak to the Tremulous Tom Barrett, the cowardly Michigan Congress man. 1/4 to 1/5 of them raised their hands when asked if there were any educators in the room. About 15 in the room were Veterans, when asked. One speaker at the mic identified as a spouse to a disabled veteran.
The majority of attendees were elderly white people, categorized as baby boomers, with a good spattering of Gen Xers. Some of the “blue hairs” even had dyed purple hair, which Krumnow, a color hair enthusiast enjoyed. Among them she saw women knitting, crocheting, and men using their canes to get up to the mic to have their words heard by the shadow of a man elected to represent his people.
Sadly, as many of us on TikTok know, but others do not, the 92% are still resting, as we respect their choice in the matter—but it was called out by a representative or speaker there, that it was one of the “whitest crowds, they’ve ever seen at an event they’ve attended.” Respectfully, an elder black man spoke up in the back and made his presence known, along with a handful of other minorities in the room. They did not stand to speak at the mic while Krumnow was in the room though, she would report that there were a handful of minorities in attendance.
Krumnow does respect the 92% movement and all the hard work they have done in the past. She is merely reporting the numbers. As always everyone is welcome to these events. One person suggested the next event be held in the heart of Lansing as a solution.
Krumnow of Now News with fellow concerned citizens at Tom Barrett No Show Town Hall Event
20-30 Millennials were there, including Krumnow, and her contact on the ground reporter, close friend, and now an elected lead of 50501 MI, and small business owner, Colton Hughes. He too, moved past his fear of public speaking to address the crowd and voice his concerns (Krumnow captured the moment, which he published on his social media). He was joined by another lead Millennial from 50501 MI.
A handful of Gen Z stood in the back, who lived in the building and wanted to show support and see what a Town Hall would look like. Others not with the group, of the same demographic, took to sitting against the wall in the back.
Children sat in the laps of their parents, some falling asleep, other’s participating and learning more about their government, while others on iPads, as their parents showed up.
*For the sake of quickness, Krumnow did not edit her photos from today’s events, and selected the best ones to post for a quick turn around and provide an honest viewpoint of the crowd and individuals who came out to speak to Tom Barrett. | These zoomed in crowd shots were taken near the end of the event, about 3:30 PM, after some individuals had started to clear out.

Local Media Representation at Tom Barrett Town Hall 03/22/25
As of 03/22/2025 at 10:53 PM
Ironically, once more, Krumnow saw no identified local media at this event. She wore a press badge identifying herself for the crowd to inform them who she was. Many strangers have actually began to recognize her and knew why she appeared, to cover the story.
As she knew the local Lansing news outlets would most likely not.
One woman came outside to ask Krumnow (or any individual, Krumnow was just in the area, setting up an interview space), what the room capacity was. Krumnow had an open conversation and provided all the details she already found out herself—by speaking to the event organizers as a guerilla journalist. The person was feeding the details to another local reporter, either for WLNS, WILX, or Fox 47. It’ll be interesting to see if they cover the news, as they were not there themselves.
UPDATE: Krumnow has been provided two articles of note that covered the news. Whether these reporters were here on the scene can not be confirmed nor denied. City Pulse and Lansing State Journal.
And once more, many people were there with camera phones, and perhaps one or two people with real, professional cameras. (Krumnow uses her high quality camera phone for all her content, a Galaxy S23 Ultra if interested.) But Krumnow saw not a single, professional media rep there with an identification badge.
She implores the local media of Lansing, once more.
Where is the news coverage.
How is she, a local concerned citizen, attending, compiling, photographing, recording, and publishing content, FOR FREE faster that any local Lansing Media publication?
I’m waiting.
In the meantime.
You can help support her work by buying her a coffee.
Anonymously, if you choose so. She does do shout outs in Tiktok and on IG stories sometimes though….
